KALI LINUX is generally a operating system based on linux , but its not for general or official usage. .It is specially developed for hacking and penetration testing and security auditing .
It is based on linux Debian distribution. This os is developed by OFFENSIVE SECURITY.
KALI LINUX is released on 13 march 2013.

MINIMUM SYSTEM CONFIGURATION=>>
  1.  KALI linux required a minimum of 10 gb hdd space tobe installed.
  2. 512 mb of ram and minimum of i386 and amd64 architecture.
  3. a bootable cd or dvd drive or a usb device.
